Difference Between HAZWOPER 8, 24, and 40

HAZWOPER 40-HOUR

The 40-hour training is the most comprehensive and detailed level of HAZWOPER training for those highly involved in hazardous waste operations or emergency response activities. In particular, for positions handling, cleaning, or removing hazardous substances.

The 40-hour course covers all the topics included in the 24-hour training but provides additional depth and breadth of information. The 40-hour training also incorporates more extensive coverage of health and safety practices, hazard communication, and site-specific safety plans.

HAZWOPER 24-HOUR

The 24-hour training builds upon the foundational knowledge provided in the 8-hour course. It offers more in-depth content and is suitable for workers with a higher involvement level with hazardous substances. This level of training is recommended for workers involved in cleanup operations, emergency response, or those who work in contaminated environments.

The 24-hour course covers hazard assessment, personal protective equipment, decontamination procedures, and more extensive emergency response protocols.

HAZWOPER 8-HOUR

This course is offered as an initial supervisor or annual refresher course. It covers hazardous waste operations and emergency response.

The 8-hour course is designed for workers with minimal exposure to hazardous substances or who need a general awareness of the potential hazards they may encounter. It covers essential topics such as hazard recognition, basic control measures, and emergency response procedures.
