About This Course

Materials handling is a critical safety concern in surface mining, where improper practices can lead to serious incidents. This 2-hour, 100% online, self-paced course helps miners, supervisors, and safety personnel recognize materials-handling hazards and apply practical controls aligned with MSHA Part 46 expectations. You’ll review safe handling techniques, hazard identification, and accident-prevention strategies, along with how these elements fit into an employer’s training plan. 

Each mine operates under an MSHA-approved training plan tailored to its site. This course can be incorporated to support annual refresher needs under 30 CFR 46.8, where applicable. Because plan requirements vary, the mine operator is responsible for confirming MSHA compliance and ensuring all required training is completed.
