About This Course
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is the first line of defense in surface mining, where workers face hazards such as impact, noise, dust, chemicals, and falls. This course provides an overview of selecting, using, and maintaining PPE in alignment with MSHA Part 46 standards.
This training covers hazard assessment, proper fit and limitations, care and replacement schedules, and worker and employer responsibilities. Topics include head, eye/face, hearing, respiratory, hand, and foot protection, high-visibility apparel, and how PPE integrates with other controls and your site procedures. This training is ideal for operators, supervisors, safety personnel, and surface-mine workers who must apply PPE correctly to reduce risk and support compliance.
Employers deliver MSHA training under an approved plan. This course provides foundational content that can support annual refresher needs under 30 CFR 46.8, where applicable. Final applicability and required site-, task-, and on-the-job components are determined by the mine operator’s approved plan.
Who Needs MSHA Surface Mining Personal Protective Equipment Training?
