WHAT IS OSHA 10?
OSHA 10 is a 10-hour introductory safety training course developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as part of the OSHA Outreach Training Program. The program is designed to teach workers the fundamentals of workplace safety and health so they can better recognize, prevent, and report hazards on the job.
This course is intended primarily for entry-level workers and introduces key topics such as workplace hazards, employee rights, employer responsibilities, OSHA complaint procedures, and general safety practices. OSHA 10 courses are offered for multiple industries, including Construction (covering standards found under 29 CFR 1926) and General Industry.
The OSHA Outreach Training Program has trained over 1.3 million students in the past three years, helping workers across the United States gain essential safety knowledge and improve workplace awareness.
OSHA.com is owned and operated by 360training, an OSHA-authorized outreach training provider.
360training.com, Inc. is accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. IACET is recognized internationally as a standard development organization and accrediting body that promotes quality of continuing education and training.
Important: OSHA requires that both the Outreach course and the end-of-course survey be completed within six (6) months of starting the course. If these requirements are not met within the required timeframe, a Department of Labor (DOL) card will not be issued.
Who Needs OSHA 10 Training?
OSHA 10 training is designed for entry-level workers who need a basic understanding of workplace safety and OSHA regulations. While OSHA itself does not universally require the course, many employers, contractors, and job sites require workers to complete OSHA 10 training before beginning work.
The course is commonly required or recommended for roles such as:
- Construction workers and laborers
- Electricians and plumbers
- Roofers and carpenters
- Manufacturing and warehouse employees
- Maintenance workers
- Landscaping and utility workers
- Site supervisors or crew leaders new to safety training
Different industries face different hazards, which is why OSHA 10 training is available in industry-specific versions, such as Construction and General Industry. These courses tailor safety topics to the risks workers encounter in their specific work environments.
After successfully completing the course, workers receive an official Department of Labor (DOL) wallet card, often referred to as an OSHA 10 card. This card demonstrates that the worker has completed OSHA Outreach safety training and understands basic workplace safety principles. Many employers view it as an important credential that helps verify a worker’s safety knowledge and commitment to maintaining a safe job site.
